Man Helps Employees Of Rival Business After Fire

After a fire closed Encore Bar and Grill in Altoona, Wisconsin, employees are getting support from an unlikely source: the owner of their competition, Bug Eyed Betty’s restaurant, Jordan Hedrington. He’s extended the same discount he gives his employees to the 30 workers from Encore and even started a GoFundMe page to help support them.

"We're all a part of the same community,"Hedrington says. "So, it's good when people recognize and lend a helping hand to people that are going to need it. Some people say competition, I don't. I think we're all fighting the same fight and they'd do the same thing if we needed help."

Other local restaurant owners are also offering Encore employees a discount on meals and some are looking to hire new workers, so that could help displaced workers too. The community is showing they have their backs and Encore owner Dave Zempel says that reassures him everything will be okay.
